This is a rather naive view of things, admittedly one I held before I started working for Warp. Sure an album may cost 50p to make, but by the time it's been distributed, MCPS has been paid, artwork, marketing, advertising costs have been accounted for, the artist royalty has been paid etc etc, we actually lose money on some albums, never mind singles. This is fact. Sorry. If you want artists and/or us to survive unfortunately this is the situation. If fingers need to be pointed any where, point them at the big chain stores who demand huge discounts, sale or return and then flog 'em at 13.99/14.99 when (good) indie stores sell them at 11.50... g.
