Just a couple thoughts on the Money Mark/Beck/Dust Brothers show today: took place at the Santa Fe loading docks in downtown LA, near the historic fourth (?) street bridge featured in Devil in a Blue Dress, Strange Days, Repo Man, etc. Hot and sunny with various booths in the loading docks. Money Mark played a weird set of like 20 minutes which featured him trying to get his gear to work, telling stories, and sort of playing songs...he managed 4. Mispotted Mark who used to have long hair earlier in the day for the really trippy long haired guy in Beck's loser video who plays guitar on the roof. Does that make any sense? Anyway, Mark did play some rad TB-303 freestyle. He also did a shit-ass version of Cry that made me kick my foot in the dust. Dust Brothers (original flavor, not extra crispy) dj'd some thrift-store funk and kitsch, some old school rap and matronix, and a Paul's Boutique dub plate that must have been from the tour. They can't really mix. Next time I go to a show I'm going to bring the Universal Indicator Green 7' with me and when the DJ starts slippin I'm going to jump up on stage and put it on. Maybe. Beck was OK. I left after 5 songs. Anyway, the whole thing was a little too Silverlake art-rock for me. I can't fucking stand this whole dog as a fashion accessory thing that's going on in LA. Did however manage to hook up with fellow IDM'er Brock Suter and lady friend who were all around goodfellas. G-spot, over and out... /""'' /"'RESH Live and Direct from the G-Spot Orange County, California, USA
