i care! i don't know what the "west coast" sound is either, and i live on the west coast and make records... some of which even have breakbeats although i wouldn't really call them "west coast" anything. i mean here in san francisco alone we've got single cell orchestra (electro), freaky chakra (trance-funk), spacetime continuum (idm), astral matrix (acid trance), me (uncategorizable)... :) people just love to slap labels on things.
