Tek 9: It's not what you think it is!?!! 1996. SSR/Crammed Discs/Reinforced (SSR161-EFA7694) 1. Intro part IV 2. Gettin' down again 3. The Friday takeaway order 4. Whispers 5. We're gettin' down 6. The beast within 7. Phat like a... 8. Is it on? 9. Tawa 10. Old times, new times 11. 74" above sea level/ The badminton test 12. Sweet dreams & goodnight 13. Spring 14. Mysteries of music CD2 Breakin' sound barriers: the oldies but goodies 91-95 1. The theme 2. A London sumtin' 3. We bring anybody down 4. The attack (the original 4 Hero remix) 5. Partz 1&2 (Manix remix) 6. Jus' can't keep my cool 7. Slow down (Nookie remix) 8. Killing time (Spielberg mix) 9. Space 91 10. Summer breeze 11. Pushin' back 12. Killing time (original) 13. Theme & F.U. (Points Proven remix) The crazy Reinforced crew in effect with this cd of downtempo delights. With contributions from King Britt of Digable Planets/Ovum Records fame and a jazz hop lazy, super stoned feel to most of the tracks on the 1st cd, it lurches along somewhere between Mo' Wax and Wagon Christ. The Beast Within is the 1st to pick up the bpms, but it remains far to the ambient end of jungle. 2 other tracks (74" and Spring) are jungle and Tawa is composed of slowed-down breaks. As a hip-hop album, its been done before and better. As a Sunday afternoon, sittin' on the front porch, sippin' beers and smokin' kinda album, though it succeeds nicely, sounding good as it spirals past before it fades away. The 2nd disk provides a nice view of the back catalog and is essential for anyone who, like myself, hasn't heard these before and is interested in hearing the progression that led up to the intelligent drum and bass of today. Some female and rasta vocals might scare some away, but the beats and the wierdness keep bringing me back. 7.5/10 peace john ________________________________________________________________________ The power of the dance is a dangerous power.
