The breakbeat SF sound of a couple years ago is all but dead here. Lots of house, of course, but techno is rising in popularity. Your best bets record store wise are Soundworks in the city, or Mod Lang and Rasputin's in Berkeley. Tweakin's worth checking out as well - they're probably the best stocked for domestic and Detroit techno and house. As far as clubs, check out the SFRaves calendar on hyperreal. I'm involved in a Monday night techno weekly called Mad that's usually pretty good.
