Few questions here (various topics): 1) Does anyone around here know of any reliable vinyl distributors for experimental ambient/techno/IDM? I'm looking for a distributor who's more interested in disseminating good music than making a quick buck shuttling off formulaic 4-on-the-floor. I realize they have to make money too, but this has been my experience of late: our main distributors right now have sent back copies of our last two releases saying they couldn't move the records; and when we talked to some NYC record stores about sales and our next release (who deal with these distributors and were awaiting news of our releases), they never even knew those last two releases existed!!!! I'm afraid of being driven out of business by unstable distribution rather than people not liking the music -which I could at least understand. So does anyone know a reliable distributor or two out there? 2) I'm travelling to San Francisco next week. I'm not really into that west break-beat thang' (My tastes are something more akin to the topics on this list.) but I would be looking for something to do and places to go. I'm hesitant to spend time visiting the USUAL spots (Primal, Tweekin', Amoeba, 1075 Fulsom, etc.) if they're going to cater to the local ethnocentric tastes only. Could someone inform me of some alternative sources of entertainment or give me faith that the usual spots could deliver something for MY taste buds? 3) Autechre and STC: Does anyone know, positively, if Autechre is still playing Detroit this weekend? I know STC canceled, Jonah was also booked for Miami on Sat for the Winter Music Conference- probably a lot more money, among other things, to be had on south Miami Beach in front of thousands of who's who in American dance music production than in early spring Detroit in some sketchy warehouse where the cops might bust in and break all your equipment in a cannibal frenzy... Anyway, my point being this: Autechre was billed to perform with STC in both Miami and Detroit. Now that STC has backed out, has Autechre followed suit and flown south for (MTV's) spring break OR can I travel to Detroit this weekend, comforted by the thought of analog and sampling bliss to be had at the end of the pot-hole-ridden road? -----I know there are info lines but I don't trust a one of 'em. I've lost count of how many times I showed up at a party for the mere sake of a name, shelling out $15 -$20, only to find out- once inside- that my "name" had canceled a week before. ----- ...confused, bored, and praying for sunshine in northern Ohio...
