Well, I have mixed feelings about this. I've been to 3 Lolla's so far,
starting with the one where the Peppers headlined... Ministry stole the
show(and Lush was a close second IMHO). The following year, Front 242 gave
the best performance, hands down. The year after that, Tribe Called Quest
& George Clinton put on a 'phat' show :). All this goes to say, that it
doesn't matter how many shitty bands there are... The best ones are never
the people you'd expect. Granted, most of the Cobain-obsessed croud will
probably not even pay attention to the Hartnoll bros., but those of us who
do are in for a nice treat, amongst the myriad of 5$ hotdogs and 10$ evian
waters.
Remember 'Woodstock II'? I dont' know how many 100 of thousands of
people show up for that one, but I'm willing to bet that less than 500 or
so were even aware that APhex Twin, Orbital, etc. were playing on a
second stage... Who knows, this could be the breaking point for the
mainstream absorption of IDM?... wow, what a scary thought.
