I think Planet Mu might be big for those who feel
that Squarepusher, Mu-Ziq and uptempo RDJ
didn't properly hollow out the wacky, skittering drum
segment of IDM in 1995. While it would be hard to
say that a lot of the early and mid-period Squarepusher
and Mu-Ziq stuff isn't phenomenal, there isn't a lot
you can do with this sound, and there certainly isn't
much you can do with it as well as "Hard Normal
Daddy" or "Hangable Auto Bulb" or "Bluff Limbo" did.
It just seems to me there is so much more worthwhile
material coming out in other genres that to spend time
focusing on Planet Mu is a waste of money. I haven't
really liked anything on that label in some time.
And to keep this an informative post, here are some of
the new things I'd recommend:
* Airbag 12" (Out to Lunch)
* Landshipping: Sleep Hath Arrested Us 7" (Liquefaction)
* Blaze: Productions 2LP (Playhouse)
* Arovane: Atol Scrap CD (Arovane/Chain Reaction)
* DAT Politics: Tracto Flirt LP (Skipp)
* Exos: Eleventh CD (Thule)
* Pluramon: Remixes 12" (Mille Plateaux)
* Schlammpeitziger: Restwassrestgeibetel 7" (A-Musik)
