At last someone else out there with the sheer good sense and vision to appreciate what is going on here (i.e. I totally agree). At the Milky Way last Sunday for the RSW et al Ambient Evening, everyone I met was talking about the album, and practically no-one 'got it' (not you Hans & Pete). Too negative, too empty, blah blah - by the end of the evening I was almost questioning my sanity (I claimed it was the best release of the year so far). My only recomendation to Unbelievers is: the more of yourself you put into the listening, the more you will get out. Two weeks after I'd had it, it was still sounding different every time I played it. The problem is, they were industry biz people (DJs, critics, etc) and too many people are listening to far too much stuff each week; this is not something to appreciate with a cursory earful. I think it highlights a dificulty with being into IDM; some of the best stuff takes more time than we can give. jules PS: unsubscribe. I'm off to the UK for a week; must check out this Ambient Soho place. Dare say Fat Cat'll get a look in too. I'm off armed with recommendations from this lovely group, so they better be good...See you later. Mediamatic Magazine / Wired Mediamatic Interactive Publishing Mediamatic On Line P.O. Fulllenght CDs ? That's what I'd like. We want more, more, more of this! :) I've been listening to Lifeforms all weekend now and when I listened to it for the first, it almost literally blew my socks away. 'Aural orgasms' was one of the expressions that came to my mind (especially those bassbursts on Among Myselves). Now that I've heard it about 10 times it still sounds fresh and new. It's much better than Orb (though I still like them a lot too). And then for the questions: On 5th track on disk1 (Dead Skin Cells?) there's very familiar sound at about 0:40 and 1:20 (that laughing noise), I'm sure I've heard it somewhere before but I just can't place it. Any hints ? And then there's another familiar sounding sound on track 6 on disk2. It's at about 3:?? (it's quite long) and it sounds to me a lot like soundtrackmusic to a game on Amiga called Archipelagos played backwards. :) I'm probably just imagining this but... Janne I also finally found Aphex Twin's SAW85-92 the same day, and that's bloody excellent album too, but at the moment FSOL wins without a doubt.

I'm not too sure about those, but I'm almost positive that the foghorn sound on a couple of the tracks is from This Mortal Coil (Filigree & Shadow). - Macrodot -- "I'M IN PARADISE NOW.." - Meat Beat Manifesto
