It's funny that we consider older musicians to be whores when they try (struggle?) to maintain a sense of cultutal currency and while we (culturally speaking we) deride other musicians for not changing. So I guess it's better for Bowie to do nothing and never play live again or never release another album?

Not by me. I maintain that he's only doing what he has always done - be a chameleon, and quite well, thank you. I think that some people became familiar with him during a certain period when he was popular (the one in which he probably had the greatest success in terms of being "big") and so when he does what he has always done, they see it as a loss of his "originality". Stand him next to Jagger and he looks quite relevant. And I've heard far less acceptable attempts to incorporate the electronic cultural currency into an old-line popstar's playlist than "Earthling". jeff ...just don't get me started on Jeff Lynne :-) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

What I found quite interesting along those lines was the McCartney/Youth "Fireman" project. jeff --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

"Liverpool Sound Collage" is also a pretty damn good album --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Interesting thing about that project was the fact that McC's name does NOT appear anywhere on the release. It's totally hush-hush that he's behind it. I suppose he was scared of 'offending' his fan-base or losing people who've followed his more pop career all along ?
