"M Mercer" <vletrmx@hotmail.com> wrote: Alva noto "Transform" (Mille Plateaux) This is an essential record for anyone who's into the more rhythmic yet abstract side of the microsound/glitch stuff. It's more rhythmic than his last one on MP ("Prototypes") but no less accomplished. Geoff White "Questions and Comments" (Force Inc) This release, while certainly a neat and tidy collection of tracks, doesn't do a whole lot >for me. the soundclips i heard of this i really liked. i want to hear the album, but i'm afraid i'll be dissapointed like i was with the MRI. The Perlon comp, as mentioned below, is pretty good, although it's not

(Not having a turntable, I'm limited to what little Perlon >offers on CD) you really should get a record player, you can pick up one for under $30 at a garage sale, thrift store, or a place that renovates old stereo equipment. as for the perlon comp, it's worth pointing out that the cd is mixed, which i'm sure may annoy a lot of people. i haven't heard the Nikolai release, though i'd like too. actually perlon stuff is kinda hard to get a hold of at the moment. How is the "Famous When Dead" compilation on Playhouse? i've been meaning to get this for awhile, but just haven't gotten around to it. anyway, i definitely recommend the albums by ISOLEE and LOSOUL. you can check out soundclips of some playhouse stuff at http://www.groovetech.com _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it's pretty well crafted. it dips into a certain kind of extinct disco; for lack of a better reference something along the lines of "Disco Inferno" which is, you know, pretty far from the chilled out conspicuously-digital sound of this stuff. so: an interesting gambit. but...ehhh...yeah, something's not there yet...not enough ambiguity or something...

still, you get three times as many tracks for the same dough...for me the problem is that the Perlon sound is so well defined the comp gets cloying with so many tracks having a similar sound (what is it? big clean four on the floor kick drum, with little quirky stuff as garnish?). but there's a bunch of great tracks on there. I just find it hard to listen to the whole thing at once.

really good. more house than tech, and quite a bit of variety. There's an 'oddball' quality to many of the tracks that somehow holds the whole thing together. there are some amazing tracks, like the Losoul and Blaze's weirdly obsessive "Paradise". k --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
