Ah, so better to say nothing then something poor, eh? As one who spent postage and mailers, I'd rather read that someone suffered through the lengths of my CDr then read nothing. Better to know that the effort was unenjoyed, then guessing that the CDr was simply dropped out the window without even being played out. But since WWJD? has never been reviewed by the Mighty Clow, I guess I know how he really feels. :) At least he has good taste in beer. Tra-la. Mr. Tar --- Peace Hugs and Unity Jason J. Tar W. W. J. Not always. But often, yeah.

Heh. I suppose I should've expected this. Just 'cause I don't often review stuff that I don't like doesn't mean that I review everything that I *do* like. And I played a track on my show, didn't I? :)

My 2 cents... If you (not just you Greg, but anyone)are a music 'reviewer' than i guess there is nothing wrong with only giving glowing reviews. If you consider yourself a music 'critic' then you better slam a few albums. As far as i'm concerned the role of an art critic is to uphold some sort of standard of which works of art deserve wide recognition and which should send the artist 'back to the drawing board'. and no, i don't want to get into some kind of 'perceptions of art...subjective...who's to say what standards... blah blah..' conversation -- On Mon, 6 Dec 1999 20:27:18 Greg Clow wrote:

I agree. I generally tend to get frustrated with critics in general, but the ones that I do like are the ones that tend to be more critical of whatever it is that I am reading about. The whole appeal of a reviewer/critic is to give the reader/viewer an idea of what a certain piece of art is about. When I do read something by a critic, it's by a critic who isn't going to be optimistic and nice about a total piece of shit album that I'm going to go out and waste $20 on. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
