news from the NME, UK pop broadsheet
to the stars, week of the 26th June:
Leftfield's new album (FINALLY!) is called
"Rhythm and Stealth" and is out in the UK
6th September on Hard Hands. "Afrika Shox"
with Afrika Bambaataa (and a Chris Cunningham
video supposedly done some time ago) is out
August 23rd.
There's a small Capitol K interview, after I
mentioned his Planet Mu review in the last
issue - umm, not much quotable in it, he spoke
Arabic at school and likes secretly Dictaphone-ing
people? :)
Capitol K, along with Mu-Ziq, Jega, Horse Opera,
The Bowling Green, and Slang all play at the George IV
in Brixton, London, on July 16th - first 100 people thru
the door get a split Mu-Ziq/Jega 7-inch. oo, collectorness
abounds!
Squarepusher's "Maximum Priest" is reviewed as -
"Opens by taking us back to a world of medieval
folklore... then, plinky-plonky shuffly jazz pokes its
head up. Horribly enjoyable slap-bass lunacy ensures.
Meet the new Squarepusher, then. Same as the old
Squarepusher, really." Hah, gotta love NME's succintness.
Only other thing which tickled me - the new big-as-fuck-big-beat
Jungle Brothers single produced by The Propellorheads
is very successfully summarised as "sounding like a chase
scene from an animated Disney feature about cat criminals."
Well, OK, I thought it was funny at least :)
