Slowdive followed up SOUVLAKI and the "5" EP (to which you're likely referring, it has the three extra tracks that were tacked on to the end of the US version of SOUVLAKI) with their final album PYGMALION on Creation. PYGMALION is a very sparse, minimal, yes, ambient album, but is not as electronic as the "5" EP which Neil Halstead says was inspired by Orbital and Aphex. The group broke up in 95 and reformed as Mojave 3 on 4AD, thus abadoning the Slowdive experimental phase and pursuing a more traditional song-based structure. Neil, however, did do a very nice ambient electronic track in 95 with Tony Wilson under the name Zurich which later appeared on Leaf's INVISIBLE SOUNDTRACKS compilation. Neil also sings on the Locust track "On the Horizon" on the MORNING LIGHT album. Mike.

I believe the artist Zurich on that Leaf compilation are members of Slowdive doing electronic music. They were such an excellent band it saddens me that they are no longer. Mojave 3 just doesn't do it for me. The Reload and Bandulu remixes of Slowdive were pretty good. --Michael Stein <mstein@MasterChart.com> wrote:

Call me oldfashioned but i just adore the early Slowdive shoegazer stuff, ala their first album Just For A Day or their EP Holding Our Breath... yeah its not as electronic, but talk about blissful wonderful washes of sound...! ill never forget seeing them live years back in Kansas City's now defunkt club The Shadow. Just wave after wave of LOUD all encompasing washes of sound. Buried amidst the bliss were the beautiful unintelligible vocals and submerged drums. I stood and swayed with my jaw dropped the whole time :) and then a year later i for some insane reason traded off Just For A Day! Miss it much now, so if anyones got an unwanted copy, just send it this shoegazer's way :) -thad
