OK I've bought these titles and I have to let them go, they SUCK!IMHO. I just bought no more than one hour ago: CHART RUNNERS- V/vm (after 30seconds I pulled the needle off) SOMEONE TAKE THIS off my hands I paid $15 for it! GESCOM minidisc I HAVE TWO SEALED copies of this useless thing. I paid $17 for each. THRID EYE FOUNDATION vs. V/vm SPLIT 12" $10 (played half of each side, more crap) what the fuck is up with all this nonsence digital sounding noise. I mean I like crunchy digi sound, but man do something with it! And that V/vm what the fuck is this shit! that x-mas 7" was funny an all, but everything I've heard since is disgusting! I think I may have to go live with BROCK SUTER and let him school me with the Drum n Bass cuz I can't be an IDM purist anymore. What the fuck is happening to IDM? You have to be sooo "intelligent" the music becomes "ignorant" goddamn what a waste of money! I'm sooo fed up I almost bought a "TECHNO CLASSICS" cd today with all those old school ACEN songs (not that there's anything wrong with ACEN. Maybe some of these artists should listen to that stuff so they learn what a BEAT is!) I think Lexaunculpt knows how to pull all thi digi crunch sound and do something GOOD with it, but the above titles I'd like to let go are a great example of IDM CRAP! Someone who ENJOYS THIS CRAP please buy it from me as they are in MINT condition! or if you have trades I'm open to all the OLD shit from APOLLO, WARP (I have most of it), Mira Callix 10", Skam pre07, GPR, whatever as long as it's got some melody and I can play it for a CROWD, yes some IDM is OK for the dancefloor, it doesn't have to sound like my TV going haywire. Damn, I want the old NEW ELECTRONICA days back! UGH. -- -gilly ps: I bought these titles cuz the IDM list hyped em enough to spawn my interest, I think I'll have to dig deeper from now on! ........ºprotest protestersº............. Hehehehe... I think the problem here is that you expect V/Vm to be IDM, but really, its just V/Vm... hmm.. differing tastes. see, i think for me, im excited to see idm-ish stuff move towards the more noisey/abstract/dark/nonsense of early industrial. the v/vm stuff, overall, tends to not be all that.. BUT they touch upon some real moments that i really really respect and enjoy.. and really, im quite into the whole DIY thing. really, to be on opposite sides of gil, i like the fact that the emphasis on standard "structure" witin IDM tracks is going away (though the whole drill and bass thing tends to annoy me).. but, really, im just into noise and dark atmospheres.. so take my opinion for what its worth.

hmm.. i guess. i have insane respect for alex, and he produces some of the best stuff i have heard... in fact, i have a wonderful cdr of some drone stuff he did. quite the talented fellow. but its comparing 2 different things really. you picked up some of the noisiest idm stuff around, stuff that has very little structure.. and then try to compare it to stuff that is super structured and complex.. its like saying "what the fuck is up with this country shit? really its nothing like that michael jackson i just bought.. but what the fuck? they were both in the pop section." just because something is labeled "idm" doesnt mean you have to rush out and buy it..

The problem is that your NOT LISTENING TO IDM!! just because autechre puts out a record it shouldn't automatically be idm... 'but they were on artificial intelligence six years ago- how can they have changed genres!!" just because an artist collaberates with skam shouldn't make everything else they do idm from now until eternity. Slap any other title on these records and they'd shunned here, but no.. because '3000 of the smartest people in the world' (quoting the SKA010 write up at forced exposure... are there really 3000 of us!?) say so, it's IDM, even though only 2/3rds of those letters are correct Don't get me wrong, i really do love V/Vm, but i really don't think chart runners is IDM, since there's not a single element of DANCE, RHYTHM, whatever in it. Avant-Garde? Yes. Experimental? Yes. Industrial? Maybe. IDM? Probably Not. IDM _INFLUENCED_? Yes. But Madonna claims to be idm influenced, should we all post are want lists for the variant version 23 Austrailian import of 'Like A Virgin' on this list now? No. But that's what you get when you start labeling music, people. It's not just _MUSIC_, it's not just _Dance Music_, it's _Intelligent Dance Music_...

well, maybe the issue is that people aren't descriptive enough in their posts. Maybe instead of saying 'get the new v/vm it kicks ass' you should write a quick review and at least get the basic idea across. Once you've been around here long enough you'll find the people with similar musical tastes whose faves you can always agree with. Or maybe it's just that too many people on this list are closed minded big time. I also think that the people who have discovered this music from a 'typical' techno/dance standpoint have a tendency to get into the 'this is as experimental as i get' rut. (No offence to anyone). For example, my pre-idm days were spent split between hip-hop and industrial (and i still listen to both quite a bit), which puts IDM at a sort of middle ground for me, giving a bit of room for motion in either direction (like the people on this list who think the rawkus cats and dr. octagon are too 'un-intelligent'). or maybe it's just a stoopid little rant i'm going off too heavily on... maybe i can end it with an 'unsubscr*be idm' like many more of the smartest people in the world before myself (stuart, datatheif, gil...). or maybe not NP: DONT DOLBY: 05 (Gefreim) [NOT IDM! IMHO] mlt.

Hmmm... Actually, aside from people saying that it was a good/bad release, I don't recall any real proper reviews (sure Lance must have done one) for this release. I remember I referred to it as a muddled mess of pop hits and old lustmord like sounds... were there any other reviews? Will gladly add them to my v/vm site if so... maybe help people out a bit from getting in a similiar situation... brap@sonic.net[icq: 12645306] http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ sfwd prod | noisesoundnoise chris g. 1547 boston court #7, santa rosa, ca 95405

Appearently, Shad Scott (head honcho @ isophlux) sent the majority of this release to a german distributor... So he tells me, yes. I ordered all five Isophlux releases that he had in stock, and while the Lexaunculpt is my favorite, I found something to enjoy in all of them. Great stuff, even if it's somewhat derivative in places. Greg
