The Tower Records site has a surprisingly good article on the new school of tuntablists at http://www.towerrecords.com/pulse/98/may/hiphop/scratch.html mentioning all the big names and some lesser-knowns as well. For someone (namely, me) who's got the X-Ecutioners LP, Company Flow, Return of the DJ, Vols. 1&2 and Lyrical Lounge (on mail-order), where's a good place to continue? I've seen the Rob Swift, Cut Chemist and Simply Jeff LP's around, but what about good mix-tapes? Another cool site, especially for those interested in turntablists and such, is http://dustygroove.com/ It's a Chicago store with great stocks of old-school, rare groove, soul, Latin and Brazilian records, with a lot of out-of-print items as well. I haven't ordered from them (yet), so I can't vouch for their reliability, but they've got over twenty volumes of the "Ultimate Breaks & Beats" series, for $8.99 each or the whole set for $199.95 (tempting...!) .JohnBush.

Hey. For websites, try www.skratchpiklz.com and http://sandbox.pair.com/ both of which should sell tapes and videos. I've heard good things about the Swollen Members single (mixmaster mike and others collaborating). For a hiphop album with scratching, try Dr Octagon Octagonacolagyst or Instrumentalyst (depending on if you want Kool Keith's space-robot-sex- obsessed rap or not). It'll be out in a month or two, but definitely check out the MixMaster Mike album on Asphodel, it's really great. He has a single out now. www.asphodel.com Sam

If you havn't already heard anything from kid Koala then check that out too. Hes from Montreal (my home) and has been tearing it up for a while here, He did a mix on more bits and pieces from Coldcut and has a full length coming soon on Ninja Tune, i think. Not to mention a few local tapes that are awesome.
