Tricky - Angels with Dirty Faces first thing: this album is amazing - but even closer to commerical suicide than the last one. Lots of guitar stuff going on( Scott Ian from Anthrax plays on about 1/2 the album + Marc Ribot on some of the others), real drums on most tracks too. Pretty raw - a lot of it feels like Black Steel ( from Maxinquaye ). Funky. The vocals have been fucked with a lot. The three pronouncements my flatmate made listening to it yesterday were "dub influence" + "prog rock is coming back into fashion" + "almost sounds like it could be JJ Cale". the closest thing I can think of is Tom Waits. Quite a few of the tracks sound like all the parts were played in isolation, they don't sit together comfortably at all - but somehow they work. I wouldn't be surprised if Derek Bailey turned up on the next album.
