Went shopping today - quick takes on the take:
Funki Porcini - CarWreck EP (1996, yeah, I know I'm a bit slow on these
things, but this is the first time I've seen it for less than $10, and
dammit, I just didn't want to pay $12 for 4 songs) - notable for the
Wagon Christ & Squarepusher remixes, both of which are tops, and must
haves for fans. As for the Funki Porcini tracks, Carwreck (Original
Mix), and The Fly are pretty weak (take this from an avowed FP fan). The
Original Mix is to my ears just like the album version, and The Fly
sounds like an early (and mediocre) version of another FP track, which I
haven't figured out yet. Be warned.
Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag - I bought this for the Photek remix, but it's
not that great. I wouldn't bother tracking it down unless you're a
serious trainspotter. The Nobukazu Takemura mix is pretty cool. As for
the Roni Size mixes - I could care less, though I'll admit, the
guitar/bass intro disgusts me.
