Well, this might be a little bit of old news but you should
REALLY go to Berkeley (you can take BART or drive across the
Bay Bridge) and see the "big 3" music stores there. There's
Rasputin's and Amoeba's on Telegraph by UC Berkeley, and
on the other side of campus on University Ave is Mod Lang
records which is smaller but has a great selection. It's
across the street from Ace Hardware and next to the comic
book shop if you're having trouble finding it. =)
For some reason, I never really got into events but there is
one place in SF that is kind of cool in an ambient way, called
The Audium. You can find more about it at www.audium.org.
Shows are Friday and Saturday evenings.
