i'd like to hear anyone do a GOOD plastikman-ish minimal track in 5 minutes with re-birth. everyone seems to think that rich's stuff is so easy to emulate. i have heard some really crappy examples and very few decent tracks. i think he is really amazing at what he does and he consistantly betters himslef with his new releases. i have been making music for about 12 years and i have tried fooling around with 'plastik style grooves' and can only ever do a cheesy imitation. i know, i know maybe i'm a tool (but i kinda doubt it) and to add my 2 cents to the MC-303 discussion: i really like the groovebox. it's a cool little toy. i really like sitting on my sofa and grooving along to the beats. it is a waaay better form of amusement than the TV. as a result of my noodling, i am doing 2 live gigis on the weekend using only the mc-303 and an emax. i think that as a result of the release of all these 'techno in a box' gizmos we will have to wade through a ton of shitty tracks but i think that there is certainly the potential to make something really cool as well. even if you shelled the bux for a real 303, 909 and an 808 you could still make formulaic shit anyway. although, it would be trainspotter friendly shit. i think it all comes down to the brain that is attached to the fingers that twiddle the knobs! later, peace, love and ambience. d... orbital@clo.com http://www.clo.com/~orbital
