EVENT HORIZON
Original Soundtrack By
ORBITAL & MICHAEL KAMEN
The year is 2046
A Rescue Mission is sent to the outer reaches of our solar system to
salvage the "Event Horizon", a prototype spaceship missing for the
last seven years. As the crew members search for survivors, they
discover the terrifying secrets that lie within the mysterious
spaceship.
The Paramount Pictures Science-Fiction Thriller "Event Horizon" is
directed by Paul Anderson and stars Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill,
Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson and Sean Pertwee. The Film was shot
entirely on soundstages at Pinewood Studios and is one of the largest
productions ever to be filmed in the UK."Event Horizon" has a widespread
release in the UK on August 22nd.
The soundtrack is a collaboration between Paul and Phil Hartnoll of
Orbital and noted film composer Michael Kamen. Orbital have previously
contributed material to various films including Mortal Kombat, Johnny
Mnemonic, Shopping, The Saint, Spawn and also the full score for the
recent Channel 4 Tv drama, The Visit.
Kamen's previous work stretches back to 1976 and includes scores for the
Die Hard Trilogy, 101 Dalmations, Lethal Weapon (all 3) and Terry
Gilliam's Brazil - Coincidentally, one of the Hartnolls all time favourite
films.
Much of the soundtrack features Orbitals incorporating sounds originated
by Kamen and a full orchestra in amongst and alongside their own
compositions; whilst in other areas, Kamen's more orchestral passages are
often backed with eerie atmospheric textures generated by the Hartnolls.
The score is divided into four "Movements" - the first of which is mostly
Orbital. The overall effect is dark, intense and genuinely unsettling -
entirely in keeping with this sophisticated pyshological sci-fi horror
which currently being touted as "The Shining set in space".
The "Event Horizon" soundtrack is released on August 25th by
London Records.
