Hi Folks, John Peel celebrated his triumpahnt return to a listenable time slot last night with, amongst other things, a live set from Coldcut. This lasted about half an hour (maybe a bit less) and was entertaining and infuriating in turns. They kicked off with the obligatory whale noise and a-la-kraftwerk portentous vocodered voice then preceded to do their thing: an 'inventive' mix of downtempo, drum and bass and, er, downtempo again. The best bits were when they had a frantic be-bop type jazz bass accompanying some cool drum and bass drums. The worst bits were when they were leaning on ten year old samples ("oh my god, the music just turns me on", Led Zeppy drums etc.). Still, rough with the smooth eh? When John Peel asked them beforehand if they had anything to say one of them (sorry, arch trainspotter I might be but I still can't recognise members of Coldcut from voice alone) replied: "It's OK to say no to drugs." So now ya know! love, GRob ;-) ----------------------------------------------------------- 'Drum Machines - hell, you just programme the motherfucker, press a button, you got that "bim, bam, boom" twenty four hours a day if you want it. You want it to stop? Press another button! Synthesizers too. I love 'em!' - Miles Davis, 1986
