Just parading through the IDM archives from Nov./Dec. 96, I noticed that Gil(gmv500@earthlink.net) had posted some information regarding SYNAPTIC RECORDS, and the "conflict of interest" with Nathan(formerly of AlbumsUp), and I just thought I'd offer some info to this as well: First off, I found out that the original offices of Synaptic weren't too far from where I'm based, the "capitol hill" section of Downtown Denver--sort of a Haight/Ashbury neighborhood. When I found out, I visited them, and found them running the business out of an apartment(quite small-as most of them are in Capitol Hill!) It's amazing that nearly 3 months after that visit, they had their own storefront at 608 S. Broadway, but what impressed me more was the extremely diverse selection of IDM/Goa Trance releases in the store. Compared to Wax Trax, Soul Flower, Kontents!, and these other crap stores in Denver, Synaptic opened my eyes, and gave me faith in finding a store that carries the same albums I've been reviewing here(and elsewhere) for the last two years-plus, you can listen to those vinyl goodies on SL1200's-without the excessive trainspotter traffic you'll get at ALBUMSUp! Trust me, I've seen it, and if there is any store you'd rather shop at, SYNAPTIC is the one! I did a few orders with Nate over the phone, but Ben was the one who actually "brought" the records to my door(sorta like Pizza Hut(tm), but without the attitude!), I had no beef with any of them(Nate, Ben, or Rick), I do, however, have a beef with the rest of the so called "alternative stores" in the city-->Lose the house-music mentality, and get real! Lets get some more releases from A13, Warp, GPR, Peacefrog, Chain Reaction, B12, ART, and others! Synaptic Records is the only one pushing the "esoteric" listening stuff here in our bewildered scene.(scene??) I can definitely recommend SYNAPTIC to anyone on this list, as well as their diverse selection of GOA TRANCE, DARKWAVE, GOTH, and AMBIENT releases--without hesitation, and regardless of what Mr. Dave Alex has to say! Derek ps. thought i'd bring this up since I spent a little more time in the store today, who knows, I might even come back to buy that Plaid EP on CLEAR that had my ears ringin'! Oh, and Ben, I'll work for you guys for free! Give me a call! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Derek R. Jordan, Assoc. of Arts Multimedia Designer,Elect.
