OBJETS D'ART ELEC 9 LP(Ltd quadrupule vinyl-only release) Balil-'Nort Route(Remix)'/Atypic-'Blah'/Future:Past-'Clinically Inclined'/As One-'Amalia'(ART 1) Future:Past-'Nebula Variations'/C:Metric-'Debris'/Balil-'The Whirling of Spirits'/As One-'Isatai'(ART 2.1) Future:Past-'T.R.Y. 2000 Funk'/Neuropolitique-'Artemis'/Esoterik-'Pursuit'/Balil-'Choke & Fly'(ART 2.2) Psyche-'Neurotic Behavior'/Psyche-'How The West Was Won'/B.F.C.-'Chicken Noodle Soup'/B.F.C.-'Sleep'(ART 3) Where should I start? An excellent collection of the 1st 3 A.R.T. 12'' releases. The album comes in a black gatefold package with liner notes explaining the history of the Art 1, 2.1., 2.2, and 3 12'' EP's. 'nort route' is remixed, adding more of a darker sound and is more melodic than the original. From what I know, the original version is only on the Intergalactic Beats comp., and the remix released on the ART 12'' version. 'blah' sounds more like some the early '92 Rising High techno, typical of the early black dog sound, very mechanical and industrial. 'clinically inclined' isn't too much different from the original, just a different arrangement, and again more melodic-sounding. 'amalia', 'neurotic behavior', and 'isatai' will be reviewed later via Ozy Desiderata's New Electronica discog.(e-mail me for WWW URL) 'nebula variations' is very club friendly, very dark & heavily detroit-influenced, making use of the Yamaha DX-100 FM bass synth, an instrument Kirk uses frequently also with the As One pseudonym as well. 'debris' sounds nothing like anything off of (Electo Soma), but probably something "before" that album:1991. Somewhat similar to 'mondrin' or 'obtuse'. Very dark & melodic.'the whirling of spirits' is quite beautiful & sounds closer to the SPANNERS material than BYTES. Typical Balil-sounding melodies/percussion and a mish-mash of all the tracks from the Parasight EP on rising high. 't.r.y. 2000 funk' is very club friendly and a little less darker than 'nebula variations'. It also has a "film noir" detective flick vibe running through it as well. 'artemis' isn't too much to soak up, except for the crisp 909 programming, and is very slightly Derrick May sounding. Slightly. 'pursuit' is an excellent track, and delivers what the liner notes say:"tense oberheim strings" to create the sound of a film chase scene. Drum programming is very good. 'choke & fly' is very melodic & percussive, and sounds very similar to Aphex Twin's S.A.W. 85-92 tracks. 'how the west was won' has to be one of the darkest tracks i've ever heard from Craig! About as dark as 'nebula variations' and 'debris' but very chilled out. Futuristic & Primitive at the same time. 'chicken noodle soup' sounds like a remix of 69's 'my machines', same percussion is used, with Carl himself demanding his "chicken noodle soup". Danceable and/or club friendly. 'sleep' is what it is. Ambient & nothing more. It's the only "full-on" ambient track on the album. Quite a nice package, despite it's price & it's difficulty to get a hold of. But well worth it!
