I hope this doesn't come out weird, but here goes... I have a real hard time writing about "middling" music -- stuff that doesn't hit me strongly (positively or negatively) either way. I probably review less than 25% of the stuff I pick up. I can bring CD's to work and give them "deeper" attention, but with 12" singles I generally have to tape and listen to in the car. Anything that doesn't strike me as particularly memorable doesn't even get taped -- with the phucked hours I'm working these days time is the most precious commodity. I have a rough time writing about those "middling" records because in all honesty I can't be fair to them -- if I haven't spent enough time with them to say anything deeper than "loved it" or "hated it" or "nodded out snoring over the slipmats" then I feel like I'm not being fair to the producer or the other people on the mailing list reading the review. _ stay tuned for freeke reviews #9 and #10 (electro special) I mean it this time! :) on now: Deep Space, which keeps sounding better and better on last in the car: some forgettable (but not _horrible_) trax-y thing which I probably won't bother writing about :) ----------------------------------------------------------------- dave walker, detroit art services marmoset@conch.aa.msen.com sivie minieskrot Dave Walker
