Inspired by England's take on the sound of Detroit, but
eventually tracking the roots of techno back to Motor City
innovators like Derrick May and Carl Craig, MORGAN GEIST
began assembling a studio in high school and released his
first record (via Dan Curtin's innovative Metamorphic
label) while studying at Oberlin College. He later formed
Environ, releasing powerful statements of purpose which
showed his affinity for the more emotional, mid-tempo
strains of house, disco, boogie, Detroit techno and all
flavors in between.
METRO AREA was born out of Morgan and fellow conspirator
DARSHAN JESRANI's dichotomous love of both the old moods of
R&B, disco and boogie and the more cutting-edge sound of
innovative house and techno. They bring back the soulful
experimentation of early club classics, mixing live and
electronic instruments. Simultaneously, the mood and
minimalism of more recent dance music forms creep into the
mix: Detroit's cold futurism, Chicago's abstract
track-modes, and the warmth of New York and New Jersey's
deep house. They've already dropped a collection of
classics like "The Art of Hot", "Caught Up", and "Miura",
and while prolificacy is not a dominant trait of this duo,
Metro Area promise to continue rocking theories of time and
space.
