ok places for records in the city of Toronto: penguin - 2 mccaul (probally the best spot right now for music and theyu have increased thier vinyl section well worth the trip even just for the cd selection and to chat with kim is always a pleasure, in fact terll him I say hi) rotate this - queen and bathurst - torontos answer to high fedelity.... great selection of any and all music that is no on a major label large vinyl and cd selection electron - the new kid on the block queen west of bathurst also lots of records new and used and a very knoelegable store owner whos also very supportive of local artists he has a section decicated to cd-r releases for locals only. neurotica - (just west of rotate this by a few stores) if you can deal with the pretention coming from behind the cash you have got the best second hand selection in the city lots of records and lots of cds. best place to pick up all the stuff you have been looking for but could never find especially on the experimental and jazz tip. notable mentions: metropolis- on spadina and queen they are ok and I mean just ok....over priced and not very up to date on thier stock not to mention they are over priced. kopps/vortex- is now gone so ignore gregs mention of them they are now an indie rock/punk focused record store. play de record - on younge north of dundas is ok selection is nothing to write home about and dealing with the hip hop assholes that shop there make it an unpleasent experience but I would still frop in just to see the experience as this store is an a typical dj store like something you would see in chicago or nyc. as for events going on that weekend the best resource would be: www.feedbackmonitor.com - greg has got it happening here... or techno.ca - thier events section is pretty good. between these two urls you should not go wrong as for general cultural shit happening check out www.eye.net its one of 2 left leaning weekly rags IMHO the better of the two lots of general fringe arts coverage. as for places to eat i second azul on bathurst... but since that place is so dam tendy these days I would stay away on sunday for brunch...and check out the senator on edward street traditional jewish deli styled brunchs but not so much on the deli s it is on the nice atmosphere and good food the best bagel lox and cream cheese in the city... if you not up for that check out the lakeview on dundas and ossinton for sunday brunch as for dinner time sort of deal the spadina/dundas china town (one of 2 china towns in the city) is the place my favorite place is lotus garden on dundas a great little vegan vietmanmese styled place they have the best mock roast duck Ive ever tasted! and the best hot and sour soup (greg this place rivals the place you took me 2 summers ago) any how check out eye.net for resturents also... other then that... if you have the time to check out the kensington market I would as well as little italy both great places to walk lazyly through on a sunny after noon... as for eye sores we have the cn tower, the sports dome, the harbour front, dundas square and a wide assortment of ugly run of the mill downtown office towers to gaze up into great material for album art work ;) oh and toronto islands is also nice... the designe exchange (as greg mentioned) as well as the power plant and 401 richmond... home to most of the cities best artist run centers... including the infamous Inter Access...
