I work at Twisted Village, the independant record store that's located right around the corner from where Other Music was. I didn't know about Other moving out until yesterday afternoon, when people came into the store telling me to go look at the note that the Other folks left on their door... something along the lines of "We couldn't compete with the internet... please visit us at www.othermusic.com!". Apparantly, Other moved out on Sunday night after "closing for inventory" on Sunday. Weird. Boston might not have been the best choice of a second Other location, anyway, since this city already has tons and tons of established independant record stores. For experimental music and psych, Twisted Village is literally right around the corner. For indie-rock and techno-related stuff, Newbury Comics is around the other corner. For used stuff, you can't throw a stone in Harvard Square without hitting a used CD shop. Maybe they'll think about opening a store in Chicago? Or LA? I'll bet they'd do great there. Well, for those of you looking for IDM and related electronic music in the Boston/Cambridge area, come into Twisted Village and talk to Angela or Wayne (Wayne is out of town now, but will return at the end of the month). You can write to them at sistersunshine@twistedvillage.com. They'll be happy to order stuff for you. If Forced Exposure carries it, they can definitely get it in. best, Howard Stelzer.
