They're fairly huge in their homeland of Australia, as far as this kind of thing goes. At least, every yoof here seems to knows who the Avalanches are, whether or not they normally listen to pop radio or not.
They won an absolutely ridiculous number of music industry awards at the Australian equivalent of the Grammies (or whichever is the music one for mainstream America - are Grammies TV? *shrug*).
For the record, I think they're utterly shambolic in a good way.
