I'm glad he didn't compromise with the more traditional acoustic samples. I like his synthesizer approach. > i don't really think it's that "modern" sounding at > all. if you didn't know the chronology, one could think that "internal > empire" is the more recent release. to me the latter is the definition of > "modern" sounding techno. not this pseudo jazz crap that borders on bad > muzak. I disagree, Nighttime World Vol2. sounds more recent. Internal Empire sounds like minimal techno from the mid 90's. Nighttime World Vol2. there is a certain futurism to a lot of the tracks, you would call it "pale, cheap imitation of mediocre lounge " but I disagree. >> It's not supposed to sound like "real" lounge jazz, that would be >> conventional and boring. > > you're missing the point. what i was trying to say is that it's a pale, > cheap imitation of mediocre lounge jazz. basically, jazz "muzak" is the > closest description i have for it. the closest analogy i have is those > pretentious wanks in the post-industrial scene, who are making some sort of > synthesized neo classical music, then claim "real" classical music is > "conventional" and "boring". obviously they don't have a clue about what > "real" classical is like...and i seriously doubt you have any perspective on > what "real" jazz is like either. I hate to brag but when I was like 16 or 17 I went through a jazz house faze, I was buying stuff like C.F.M Band Jazz It Up, Pal Joey, Larry Heard on Black Market this was back in the early 90's. A lot of classical music and jazz is a bit boring for my taste, it doesn't have the same appeal as electronic music, i think acoustic interments sound better in a live setting. >> You need to listen to Nighttime World Vol1. on Cheap, it may give >you a >> better perspective on Nighttime World Vol2. > > i actually think vol. 1 is a pretty good album. however, it is definitely a > step back to the old school sounds of late 80s detroit techno (synth > strings, etc). I wouldn't call it a step back. Detroit techno from the late 80's sounded much different. >> On a similar note Jeff Mills gives a preview of Every Dog Vol.3 on >his >> internet radio show > > what's the point? i'm sure we can all imagine what it sounds like...he > hasn't done anything that great in the last few years. i happen to be a > pretty big fan of his axis material, but you've got to admit, a lot of it > sounds the same....the tracks from 93 or 94 aren't really that different > from the tracks from 96-98.... I hear a difference in his sound, it has defiantly changed from the mid 90's. stephen. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
