I'm going to go back further to stuff that maybe isn't 'this-listy' at first listen, if at all: 1. Jesus and Mary Chain "Psychocandy" (1985) -- the record that put the first nail in 80s new wave pop's coffin. Dark, noisy, raw, nihilistic and utterly riveting. Still. 2. My Bloody Valentine 'Tremelo' EP (1991) -- when this came out it was sui generis. You didn't know what the fuck it was, except you liked it. MBV made vagueness an artistic quality. 3. Reload "A Collection of Short Stories" (1993) -- perhaps the first modern electronic concept album. At turns dark and industrial, and sublimely lush. 4. Muziq "Tango N Vectif" (1993) -- This album still rules. Melodic and Noisy, a perfect lo fi shot across the bow. With it's companion, the criminally delayed "Bluff Limbo", they cast a giant shadow across anyone trying to work in popular electronic music since. 5. Seefeel 'Quique' (1994) -- the missing link between indie rock and electronic music. Reich-loopy, dubby, ineffably blunted. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
