They have many wonderful releases- Brith Gof Goddodin and Pax Britannica
being my two favorites, and two of their weirder/artsier recordings. Their
earlier stuff wasn't recorded as well. Also definitely worth checking out is
their four live tracks on the first Drug Test double cd comp on Invisible.
For a long time they were regarded as an Einsturzende Neubauten clone band
or riding their coattails, but I myself much prefered Test Dept's super high
energy, super positive sound.
I think now they're pretty much defunct, outside of Martin King working on
occasional projects- Subgenius? others?
I saw them once in the late 90s at the Roxy in Hollywood with Not Breathing
and Sheep on Drugs. Outstanding show.
As for their influence on Autechre? Those guys are well versed so no doubt
they've at least heard some of their music, but I don't see too much of a
resemblance.
