I doubt anyone is actively giving out email addresses; rather, occam's razor
suggests that these people who are sending out junk mail noticed that a lot
of people who might be interested in their music communicate on these lists,
and then just trolled the lists for email addresses. All you'd really need
to do is download a few months' worth of the archive, and then use one of
those email-addy skimming programs through the file. It'd pick up tons of
email addresses for everyone who participates on the list.
However, if you subscribe to the list with a separate address, and never
post with that address, so there is no where on the net that that address
actually appears, visible to the public (like an archive), then if you get
junk mail at that address, it's probably safe to assume that someone with
access to the subscribed addresses gave them out...
