Yes, you read that right! I feel I got my money's worth in San Francisco Friday, but mainly because of the set Dimensional Holophonic Sound (Ben Stokes and Jack Dangers) put on. The first group (O.S.T., I suppose) was decent, nice wall of pulsing sounds, some good buildup...and I swear I saw Jack D. up on stage w/ him at one point, but could be mistaken, I was way in the back. DJ-wise, they were both ok, the one spinning electro and IDMy stuff had me dancing, and it was interesting hearing cuts from metal to IDM/electro and back. And Autechre, well.....the sound seemed off to me...the bass was WAY too high, it drowned out most of the treble, where, to me, the more interesting stuff was taking place. Even with ad-lib earplugs (tissue paper), it was hard to concentrate on the little warbly parts I love so much from Ae. It was ok, they did well, the sound just wasn't right for me! But, D.H.S. - WOW!! If you ever have the chance to see these guys, do it! The show they put on was awesome, had me dripping sweat from dancing so hard(not to mention NO ventilation), and the visuals...absolutely stunning. It was all keyboard controlled, and synched perfectly to the music, with video clips fitting things in the songs...even when whatever they were synched to would get warped, so would the video clip. I want their toys! I saw TinoCorp using the same set-up not too long ago, and that was great as well, more dub-oriented as they were highlighting the new Tino's Breaks Vol. 5 - Dub, but once again the visuals amazed me how well they synched-up to the music. Stole the show in my eyes...if I'd have only seen them, i would've felt I got my money's worth. So, all in all, a pretty good show. My only warning, and I don't give it lightly, BRING EARPLUGS! Even if you end up not using them, be prepared. And I don't say this lightly...any other show I've ever been at where I saw people wearing earplugs, i've never understood...why would I want to block out any of the music. Well, now I know...when the bass shakes your ears so much they can't pick up the treble. A little more balanced sound-wise, and I would've said they were awesome. just my .02 ! DJ Buddhaful np: Otto Van Schirach - is it just me, or does it seem like these guys use IDM as an instrument, like the guy on the cover is playing with, all these bits and pieces, already complete in and of themselves, but put together into something more? rambling... peas and hominy!! ------------------------------------- Register for your free domain name!
