i'm surprised to see either of these get so much attention on the list, seeing as how they've never been regarded as anything special. while i won't say that either of them would ever make it on my 'top x releases' list, they are in fact, quite good. as far as i know, disjecta isn't the *side* project of mark clifford, it is simply mark clifford's *project* after seefeel separated. the other band members went on to form the "trip-hop" group scalla while he went on to record as disjecta. the last time i talked to mark, he said he had two albums worth of new material but didn't know where to release it, as he was starting his own label (like everyone else...) but was also looking at warp to release as well. he did a side project with a female vocalist one or two years ago under the name sneakster, and also does production work for mira calix (if either of those mean anything). as for the releases themselves, clean pit & lid and looking for snags 1.0 (the ep) are probably best described by the artwork, actually. both of these records had the best TDR artwork ever, imho. clean pit & lid was bronze colored with dark greens and browns, sort of like a rusted machine, which is actually about as close to a visual description to the music as i can get. some of the tracks are rhythm based, others more abstract and rely on a few distant harmonics. melody isn't really stressed as much as atmosphere, i'd say. alot of the songs have bits of guitar samples and incorporate a very small dub feel to them as well. it's definately a darker, more clanky, chaos-driven machine sounding album, although the track "is that really it?" is probably one of the more beautiful and "human" songs i have ever heard. looking for snags 1.0, in contrast, has fluid like artwork in neon green and purple mixed with gray. i suppose you could say it is somewhat more upbeat than the album, yet it still has a similar feel to it. definately has a more organic feeling (better flowing, gentler than CP&L) but still full of machine whirs and various other noises. even a few ambient pieces on the disc incorporate what i've said above. personally, overall i probably enjoy looking for snags more, but you have to be in the right set of mind to enjoy clean pit & lid (not to mention most other types of music). hope that helps anyone who was interested. r. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
