Digital signal processing. Sound manipulation. And through the use of new software, it allows for quick and easy generation of IDM music - if your into exhuasted drum loops disguised with random glitches of sound.
For a little exercise. Just take an old 4-measure electro track + random glitch sounds to make it "sloppy" and "non-standard" and you have yourself "Intelligent" dance music. Throw a child-like nursery rhyme melody in for a spot on the Top Ten IDM records of the Century.
