okay, I have to jump in here. saying that fascism has it's good points is like saying that falling out of an airplane without a parachute is adventurous. Sure, you enjoy the rush of the breeze, the freedom of weightlessness and a beautiful view, but it all ends with a big f*cking thump on your face at the end. Fascism is an organizational system. Just like democracy is a way of organizing political groups and just like logic is a way of organizing rational thought. But, the problem with Fascism is that it's self-defeating. It tends to death. Fascism fails because it doesn't accept reality...i.e. it doesn't accept that people are independent to think, act and breath, HOWEVER THEY WISH. It also doesn't accept that people have feelings of ownership about their own lives...this is a problem because, well whaddya know, people DO have these feelings of ownership about their own lives. So it's not ever going to work. Therefore, as a practical system, it is useless because it doesn't do what it's supposed to do. And if an organizational system of this nature is useless in practice, then it's not worth the 1s and 0s I'm spending on this email. If you don't buy that argument, that's fine...go read about it some more. If you decide to think about it, you'll realize just how totally inappropriate it is to talk about the 'good points of fascism'. But...to address your specific good points: 1. Uniting the people isn't good or bad. It is simply uniting. In 1861, one half of the United States was united in the belief that black men and women imported from Africa should be owned by white men and women in the Southern USA. The other half, of course, was united against this belief. Well, it seems that when you have two halves of the same country united to opposite sides of the same belief...well, they kill each other then. Read your Human Being User's Manual and you'll discover on page three that, and I quote here, "Dying is bad. You should make an effort not to die and you should not cause others to die." Uniting people is only as good as the cause which unites them. 2. Fascism cannot control the economy. If you study it a bit, the current economic boom in the US will show you just how little "good economies" are the result of government intervention. If that doesn't convince you, look at Syria or a hundred other government controlled economies around the world. Economies are strong only when they are free. 3. Pride in oneself? Nope, sorry. Pride in the nation? Yes...this is called nationalism. For example, Nazis (think: slaughtered Jews). Romans (think: slaughtered Gauls). The Great British Empire (think: slaughtered Indians, Africans, Spanish...oh, what a long list this one is). 4. The trains run on time...perhaps. But there's more to a good political system than unhappy, soul-starved, body-starved, freezing-ass-cold nationalistic masses riding on a train that arrives on time. ---brian ------------------------ Brian W. well, some of fascism's good points: - unites the people against a common enemy - brings about a strong economy - instills a sense of pride in oneself - and the trains run on time and some of intolerance's: - makes your life easier by eliminating people to care about - gets you lots of exciting friends - it's a good motivator so, little philip, even bad things have their good parts. it all depends on your priorities. (you didn't think i actually meant that intolerance is great and we need more of it, did you? you must use the bad things as a tool when you need to.) micah stupak /"\ laerm@soulfood.org ascii ribbon campaign \ / international bright young kook against HTML email X / \ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
