OK Computer received massive critical acclaim. They made a few videos which were played on MTV because of the music press. You cannot deny that hype contributed to sales quite a bit. They managed to go platinum. Their next album (Kid A) will sell quite a bit no matter what it is. Of course the label is going to release it, because they want to make money. They refuse to release it, Radiohead go find another label who makes said money. Radiohead have artistic freedom because of sales. Kid A will sell quite a bit because of the expectation. Will it sell as much as OK Computer? Probably not, but who knows. If they followed Kid A with an even more experimental album, would it sell as much? Probably not, but again who knows. Without MTV exposure I guarantee they will do less in the US.

Don't believe anyone mentioned 'parents'. So what exactly should the target audience be? Older people should be discounted because?

Commercials use it as uncredited backing music...big deal. MTV has withdrawn the show and sent it to MTV2 for an even smaller audience to enjoy. The internet is flooded with information about anything you could possibly imagine. Yes it's an absolutely fantastic thing, but I'm sure I could find a few websites about Llama Racing as well.

I don't recall anyone complaining it wasn't 'IDM-ENOUGH'. No clue what that even means really.

Not sure where you jumped to these conclusions. One band's lead singer listened to some Warp stuff, liked it, and ended up influencing two tracks on their new album. I don't see this as leading to 'frat boys blasting out Autechre from their SUVs'. If it doesn't matter if they win a grammy (mainstream) then why does it matter that they influenced a mainstream band? -Nathan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
