I can understand that, totally. I myself moved here 2 years ago, and felt the same way to a certain extent. I think the main thing, and maybe this is a SF thing, is that here there are lots of splintered scenes here and it makes it much more difficult to jump into (from a community stand point) when there's kind of a 'divide and conquer' mentality. I think the key factor is the artist's themselves, as individuals, and not in the context of a larger 'scene'. As someone who had never been to an IDM-ish thing in the city before, (and after seeing the posts that were up yesterday I was a bit apprehensive) I went out to see what this whole thing was all about. I have to say that my experience with the individual artists was great! I meet Kevin and Bevin of blectum from blechdom, and Martin of matmos, and all 3 were exceptionaly nice people. Bear in mind that I'd never seen them before, and had any contact with them whatsoever. I think the people here, at least in this group, would be open and willing to do anything they could to make the experience a better one for everyone who's interested. I'm sure it's not the easiest thing in the world to organize, promote, and perform at this type of event. That in and of itself speaks volumes about these people. I can't speak for anyone else but the above-mentioned artists, but I have to say that it was a positive experience for me.
