Time signature and key are used to keep order. Ask any performer of notated music. It makes it easier for them. They hate playing pieces with 7 accidentals in them, and a fucked up beat. You could, in theory, give a piece the completely wrong key and just correct it with accidentals... and make a completely insane and difficult to understand rhythm... and it would still be right. but to make it easy for the performer (and the composer), it is simplified into an easier to understand key and time signature. it's like math. that's why equations are simplified. why fractions are usually reduced down. it's easier to work with. sorry if this is slightly incoherent, but it's late, and i'm drunk. jared --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
