Well, Swayzak has been popping up here and there so I thought I would ask the following set of questions to the collective: 1. When people say "tech-house" to describe an artist (as I have seen for Swayzak) does it mean "house taking advantage of production techniques used in techno"? Or what... I know everybody on this list gets all uptight about the labeling so don't nobody flip out on this one. 2. Are there notable tech-house "club nights" in the Uk or US? 3. Is there a label which has "pioneered the tech house" sound? 4. And the super bonus nerdy IDMer question: What is the origin of the term "tech-house" in conjunction with dance music? I, for one, would like to state my support for the sort of classificatory games that some describe as "sphincter clenching" activity. First, Labels hasve as much meaning as you allow them to have. Second, dance music is (obviously) prone to rapidly emerging genres and sub-genres and some folks mis-use dance music terminology in ways that actually effect people (example: Promoters who describe the type of music at their partic. night as being one sound when it's something else). Third, these kinds of discussion help to develop a much needed vocabulary for the kinds of music discussed on this list. In conclusion, I would like to put forward the idea that this list should not be limited to the discussion of "IDM"(whatver that is) but extend to a sort-of "reasoned discussion of dance music". (or in a catchier to but more annoying phrase "intelligent discussion of dance music".) I haven't seen this kind of use of the list so I'm somewhat hesitant to advance the idea, but everyone seems to agree that the definiton of IDM is "music discussed on the iDM list serv"... ===== __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
