***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***
ULTRA-RED DEBUT "A16", A SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION EP AT THE MASSIVE STREET
MOBILIZATIONS PROTESTING THE CORPORATE-CONTROL OF US POLITICS.
To lend its collective groove to the demand for economic democracy, the
audio activist group Ultra-red will premiere their new two-track EP, "A16"
as part of the Independent Media coverage of protests around this summer's
Republican and Democratic National Conventions in, respectively,
Philadelphia (June 31 - August 3) and Los Angeles (August 14 - 17).
Working with the Independent Media Centers in Philadelphia and Los Angeles,
Ultra-red has distributed a limited edition self-produced CDR to web-radio
DJs. "A16" features two dance tracks on a tech-house tip. Every sound on the
EP is taken from location recordings made during the April 16 and 17
historic street protests against the International Monetary Fund and World
Bank in Washington, DC.
With this summer's mass protests against America's dominate political
parties, the corporate-control of the Republican and Democratic leadership
will be condemned loud and clear by environmentalists, social justice
activists, labor unions, artists and civil rights activists.
For close to two decades the Republican Party has pursued an economic and
cultural war against the majority of Americans. With their racist, sexist
and homophobic spleen Republicans at large have made themselves the
hand-maidens of Wall Street. At same time, Republicans have led a
counter-revolution against all things public, except, of course, the public
shouldering of corporate welfare. Meanwhile, free-trade Democrats have
outdone their Republican counterparts in military spending, attacks on the
poor, erosion of civil liberties, assaults on worker's rights and the
worldwide imposition of a brutal global economy.
For Ultra-red, the internationalist outrage that gained public notice in
Seattle and DC will at last come home around the Republican and Democratic
conventions. If Henry Kissinger rightly described globalization as another
word for US international military and economic domination, then it has been
the corporate-controlled two-party political system which has facilitated
the pursuit of that domination. A system of government where it's political
institutions are thoroughly beholden to private, corporate power can no
longer be called democracy. Instead it is a form of tyranny.
It is Ultra-red's hope that the protests around the two Party conventions
will fully amplify to what extend "we the people" have lost our sovereignty
and have become the captives of an undemocratic system. The musical tracks
on "A16" are designed both for reflection and to inspire action. Ultra-red
hopes DJs will use the tracks to convert sit-ins into groove-ins. Ultra-red
hopes organizers will use the tracks to reflect on the relationships between
street-protest, urban acoustics and the sounds of struggle. And we hope that
listeners will use the tracks to register their position within a movement
for popular democracy.
"Beneath the streets, the dancefloor. The corporations have two parties,
what we need is a party for democracy!"
