There are a number of limitations with laptops -- notably the onboard sound on a lot of them is fairly horrible. They're also fragile, expensive, difficult to repair, and not very open to expansion. There is one well-reviewed PCMCIA sound card, the wamibox, which costs $399 -- info at http://www.egosys.net Keep in mind too that if you don't need total portability, you can build a computer with a micro-atx motherboard, nice big hard drive, and a flat panel display for about what you'd pay for a much less capable laptop.
