I have the HydroElectric LP on Morr Music; I think its fantastic.
On of the best things I've picked up lately. Its a bit like
Autechre, so if the phrase 'ae-clone' makes you squirm, then
maybe its not for you. I don't think its derivative at all,
it stands on its own, but stylistically its similar to Tri-Rep
era autechre.
The rhythms are mostly downtempo, with many glitchy/fuzzy sounds
for the percussion, and floaty ambient strings mixed throughout.
Nice syncopation all over the place to keep the beats interesting.
I find the rhythms reminding me a little more like Freeform
(the Me shape robotic stuff) because of the syncopation
What I like most about this release is that all the tracks are
long (average 9 minutes I think), so you can listen to the subtle
changes as the tracks evolve over time. I'm a pretty patient
listener, so I like it when artists take advantage of it :-)
Not too many things I've bought lately have had tracks this long.
If you like Arovane (not as much 'Tides' but all the other stuff),
then this is a must have.
Hope this helps,
Aronne
