ROBERT RICH
with over 20 albums to his name, ROBERT RICH has helped define the genres
of ambient music, dark-ambient, tribal and trance. for those hyper
concerned with these sort of limiting nametags, just trust us that his
music remains hard to categorize. part of his unique sound comes from using
these home made acoustic and electronic instruments, microtonal tunings,
computer-based signal processing, chaotic systems and feedback networks. i
don't personally know what a lot of that is, but suffice it to say that
Robert does and he'll be here to give you a rundown. Robert began building
his own analog synthesizers in 1976, when he was 13 years old. Child
prodigy? perhaps. He later studied and at, and schooled, Stanford's Center
for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). so you know he's the
real deal. we're not messing around here. you can find out all about Robert
and his music, mushrooms (the EDIBLE kind, yo) and way more by pointing
your browser to

BODYROGERS featuring RHYTHMS IN TWILIGHT
an audio visual odyssey concieved and directed by ALEX TERRAZAS.
OK, i know that's confusing. lets go over these points one by one. again,
these'll be on the final.
You thrilled to him in DONUTS N' GLORY. you kicked back to him and cohort
Dan in the farcical electronic sendup THE SAUNDERS AFFAIR...
BODYROGERS is actually local recovering
punk-rocker-turned-electronic-composer (are they really that different?)
Brian McKinley's new project. on a more abstract tip than saunders,
BODYROGERS is joined this time out by aspiring film director ALEX TERRAZAS,
ex- of the afore-mentioned ATTICUS COUNCIL and all around swell guy. Brian
and Alex are hard at work as we speak, composing sounds and combining them
with visuals for the world premiere of their collaborative work "Rhythms in
Twilight", for YOU, the Shamballa 3 attendee. who loves ya, baby?

SLOW MOVING VEHICLE
quick history lesson: Brian Eno in a recent lecture spoke of a long
standing interest in musical soundscapes that tend to function more as an
environmental accent than as an active listening experience (and indeed
that interest led to more or less his realization and subsequent creation
of "ambient music" which had a major impact on the genre as we know it
today).
Slow Moving Vehicle, as the name implies, take that line of thinking to
heart and hands. Their improvised soundscapes are informed by a wide range
of different influences and sources. guitarist Matt Pogue and
samplist/turntablist/bassist Glenn Bach (who you may remember as the
driving force behind Long Beach's now on hiatus DERVISH chill out weekly)
will take you on an excursion that's all about the journey and not the
arriving, down one mere block in the time it normally takes to get to LA.

JOHN LEWIS
What can we say about John Lewis that hasn't already been said?
unfortunately, plenty. longtime listeners of KUCI 88.9 fm may remember John
as the host of such programs as Velo Radio, In Vivo, and many others, as
well as taking up the reigns and rallying the troops as station general
manager in 1994-95. constantly infuriated by the slick, fake nicities of
Tom Schnabel and his Cafe LA radio show on KCRW, as well as those who refer
to music from other cultures as simply "world beat", John has developed his
own eastern-influenced percussive guitar technique, not unlike indonesian
gamelan music. John will fire the opening salvo for Shamballa 3, so
remember to listen to him while you sit and wolf down your meal.

DJ's DANIEL BREMMER and CHOWDERHEAD
...will drop ambience, bliss and whatever else they can find on your
digesting bodies and brains in between the cracks during live band set up
and take down. they've been kicking around this county for years and you've
most likely been subjected to one or more of their pseudo-intellectual,
pretentious ramblings, be they in the form of a live dj set, on-air duty at
KUCI 88.9fm, in print in various publications, or in e-print... in fact,
you're reading one right now! we're also the organizers of this here fiasco,
so i guess you gotta deal with us if you're at all interested. sorry.

and most important: DINNER!
our original impetus for throwing the SHAMBALLA series of events was
simple: we wanted to be able to go to an event that was as full a sensory
immersive experience as possible. one day over a meal, we decided to try to
get as close to that goal as was practical by throwing a musical/visual
event and further involving the senses of taste and smell (the touching
you'll have to handle on your own, as we're stuck in America on that one
and as fun as that might sound to some of the more adventurous of us, we
really don't wanna get sued). so shamballa was born as a
dinner-concert-lounge event. get it?
dinner, you say? indeed i did. if you haven't figured it out by now,
included with admission, you'll experience all the bands, visuals and dj's
described above at ridiculous lengths, a vegetarian Indian feast will
complement your experience at shamballa 3, and iced tea and water will be
served. Beer, wine and assorted other drinks and dessert items will be
available at additional cost. so, uh, come hungry! your support of the bar
will only endear us further to the restaurant and keep enabling these events
to occur, so keep that in mind. it's a stupid law, we realize, but you must
be 21 years of age with ID to purchase and consume alcohol. nothing new
there. no outside food or drink is allowed, for obvious reasons.
In addition, for your own added comfort, we highly encourage you to bring
pillows, blankets and whatever else you may need to enjoy the show in
extreme comfort without infringing on the comfort of others. if you have
any questions whatsoever, please email them to shamballa@peachfuzz.net.

We hope to see you there!
