I just picked this up yesterday. I can't say the first harpsichord track does much for me, but the rest is quite.. "nice". A definite oasis in the releases of 2000 so far: 100% DSP-wank-less. Sort of a distant cousin of BOC, but in so many ways very removed. The beats are live drumming, the melodies are acoustic instruments with glassy hints of synthesizer. I heard the drums described as "hip-hop".. well, IMO, not really.. as "hip-hop" as, say, the drums of Mick Harris (in Scorn guise) are. Not Blackaliscious-hiphop. Also picked up the O.S.T. release on Emanate. Jury is still out on this one. It initially rubbed me the wrong way, but I picked it up due to the fact that it's O.S.T. and Emanate, two names which have rarely left me unsatisfied. (Maybe a grower??) Paradina's latest output on planet-u is pretty catchy as well. Awfully reminiscent of "brace yourself" era u-ziq. I caught a few samples from that age being used (that yell from "Mr. Angry" for one), so I would speculate that these are the leftovers from that time period. A few tracks are totally naff but a few are really gems. Sorry for the rambling.
