re: 'plus 47 degrees 56'37 [...etc]'
at first I'd mistakenly tried using the thing as relaxing background music
for a condle-lit dinner. guess I'd been thrown off by idm posts
rhapsodizing over how lush and atmospheric the guy's work is...for those
unfamiliar, I will reveal that the record is in the vein of modernist
"electronic composition", making generous use of prickly sonorities and
white noise blasts. there are indeed pastoral moments, but they are but
components of a distinctly restless work.
trying, instead, to give it a serious listen in the late evening proved to
be much better. In fact, I thought it was great, lots of sonic surprises. a
motif of shrill, brief pulses builds again and again to various, often
surprising episodes. the biggest crescendo bears an
audio-hallucination-inducing pile of overtones, stretching on and on.
I dunno. I was excited. who knew?
