Here's something a lot of people seem to miss, the difference between the
"glitch" and just plain dirty lo
fi beats. I Care Because You Do is one of the calmest, most linear,
"traditional" records that RDJ has put out in recent years. As far away from
ae as he gets. He uses some dirty beats tho, similar to BoC stuff. Although,
I don't even really see how BoC gets to be called IDM (except maybe
Telephasic Workshop, that track is lovely), perhaps one would say
"Intelligent Trip Hop"?
With Ae it seems more like, the "dirt" IS the sound... the noise, clicks,
pops, are the components, not just a character of something (unlike a
processed break made to sound "dirty") ... I certainly can't see any
influence from I Care Because You Do or other music in that style...
I find it strange that so many people can't see the difference here, it
seems pretty obvious to me.
