All, Soel has a good point here. I'd like to address a bigger point, though. People talk about autechre rip-offs for a reason and it strikes me that not everyone seems to understand this. Forgive me if you think I'm talking down to you, but it has to be mentioned. For a long time (unbearably long for some fans), Autechre never talked about their gear. It was a secret and, as I remember it, they were around for almost 3 or 4 years before anyone had more than simple guesses about their equipment. I remember the conversations on here about the gear and, for the most part, it was "well, I think it sounds like this.." or "maybe its a drum machine there". So, for those of us who have been listening to autechre since the beginning, no one else sounded like autechre and those people who liked the sounds could only experiment. Now, seven years on, their gear list is public and suddenly there is a bevy of acts that sounds remarkably like autechre. Now, if other people like those sounds and want to make similar sounds, cool...but let's not pretend it hasn't happened. Maybe it's not a rip-off; maybe it's praise; maybe it's recognizing a good direction in music. Whatever judgment you want to put there is fine with me. But five years ago, nobody sounded like autechre and today...well, that's changed. One last thing that also intrigues me is the number of artists who sound like autechre did 5 years ago...has anyone else noticed this? I don't want to mention names, but I'm reminded of the constant comparisons to autechre circa tri repeate or envane. just an interesting side note, I suppose. ---brian Soel Griffin wrote:
