I just wanted to make you all aware of something.
A store in Miami called Yesterday & Today Dance Music is selling a large
selection of bootleg compilations. The ones we know of are:
Gescom/Autechre mixes, Autechre Peel Sessions 2, Autechre Live, Gescom
Minidisc, Black Dog/Plaid rare remixes, Aphex Twin "Words and Music",
Boards Of Canada Live@Warp10, Nav Katze, Various Aphex Twin Live CD's, a
random Rephlex Compilation without track listing, Black Dog Peel
Sessions, DMX krew, various Mego artists, Arovane, Phonem, Mark
Hadley, Skam amongst others. They must have 10 to 15 different stacks
of
bootlegs for sale at $20 each.
The fellow responsible is named Carlos Rincon (webmaster@ytmusic.com).
To our knowledge, he has been selling them for well over a year. He
designs his own covers, using the label name "Popcorn Records" or some
other name, and even includes fake UPC's. There are other bootlegs they
are selling or have sold that we don't know about - just know that if
you are an artist or label within the community of the above mentioned -
Carlos and Y&T are not to be trusted.
One example of the CD's they're selling is an Autechre cd containing the
"8AE" mix, Jail of Freedom mix, "Any number between 1 and 17", "go
sheep" on Clear, The Beast remix on Mowax, "Viral Rival" on Skam, and a
live Autechre track all designed on a mock label called "Transient".
They must have 10 to 15 different stacks of bootlegs for sale at $20

They have also been designing and selling Warp, Apollo, and Designers
Republic T-shirts.
Some of them include Sun Electric on Apollo, Autechre's Basscadet box
set design, and Aphex Twin designs, though it was some time ago since
we've seen the shirts.
This is not political. We have had a good working relationship with
this store as they sell our records and have from the beginning. We
hooked them up with Forced Exposure, our sole distribution and
production link, with whom they have a consignment deal.
In order to obtain proof for Forced Exposure, Melanie, a Schematic
member and DJ went into the store to purchase a couple cd's. When they
discovered who she was, they berated her and had her removed by the
police, whom to say the least are clueless about copyright
infringement. She was almost arrested for standing up for all of us. In
the process, she kindly suggested that they stop selling them, but they
refused.
Carlos' excuse is that he's helping the music industry.
He sent us a letter concerning the matter, here's an excerpt:
"Do you guys pay for all the licenses of software you use to make
music?
This acts are by far worst than the ones you are claiming we do, I
am also
convinced you guys own a lot of copyrighted illegal copies of music
so who
are you guys trying to fool?
If you guys hate our store please JUST don't come in and please
don't waste
our time with these stupid acts, We work hard and respect what we
have, if
you guys are not successfully economically with your label blame it
on the
quality and appeal of your music and the lack of support for it."
We have asked Forced Exposure to stop selling them Schematic material
and suggested they stop selling to them all together. Again, this is
not political. Y&T was the first store to ever sell Schematic Records,
but unfortunately they hired a bootlegger. It hurts our reputation and
it hurts you too. I would strongly suggest to anyone offended to
support us by emailing Carlos with your thoughts. We will personally
vouch for every word we have said. If you are in contact with any of
the other artists or labels mentioned or affected, please forward this
message this to them (Skam, Mo'Wax, etc.)
